Can You Print a QR Code on Paper?

Yes — QR codes print reliably on ordinary paper as long as there's strong contrast between the code and background (dark code on light paper, not the reverse) and the printed size is large enough for the scanning distance, typically at least 2×2 cm for close-range scanning.

Paper itself isn't the limiting factor; print quality and contrast are. Matte paper generally scans more reliably than glossy stock, since glossy surfaces can create glare that confuses a camera's autofocus. Standard black ink on white paper is the safest, highest-contrast combination.

Before printing in bulk, always test-scan a single printed copy with two or three different phones — a code that renders perfectly on screen can behave differently once ink hits paper, especially at small sizes.
