Wi-Fi QR Codes Explained
A Wi-Fi QR code encodes network credentials in a standardized format (`WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:Password;;`) so scanning it connects a phone to the network automatically, without anyone typing the password by hand.
This site's generator has a dedicated WiFi content-type preset — enter the network name, password and encryption type directly in the form fields, and the tool builds the correct `WIFI:` string automatically. There's no need to hand-write the format yourself; that's handled behind the scenes the same way the Contact/vCard and Email presets format their own underlying data.
Both major phone platforms, iOS and Android, recognize the standard `WIFI:` QR format natively, so scanning one triggers a built-in "Join Network" prompt without needing a separate app installed. This near-universal support is what makes WiFi QR codes practical for guest networks at homes, cafes, offices, and events, anyone with a modern smartphone can join without ever seeing or typing the actual password.
A WiFi QR code is genuinely useful anywhere the same network gets shared with many different people over time, a coffee shop's guest WiFi sign, an Airbnb's welcome card, or an office's visitor network, since it eliminates both the friction of typing a long or complex password and the security concern of a password being visibly written out in a public spot for anyone walking by to memorize.
One practical consideration: if the network password changes, any previously printed WiFi QR codes stop working and need to be regenerated and reprinted with the new credentials, since the password is encoded directly into the pattern (this is a static code, the same tradeoff that applies to any static QR code whose underlying information changes over time).
