QR Code vs Aztec Code

Aztec codes are a 2D barcode format commonly used on airline boarding passes and transit tickets because they don't require a blank white margin around the pattern, which matters on cramped ticket printouts. For general, marketing, and business use, QR codes are the better choice because of near-universal recognizability and native support in every phone's camera app.

Aztec codes use a central square finder pattern, a bullseye at the very center of the grid, rather than the three corner squares a QR code uses. The more important practical difference is that Aztec doesn't require a quiet zone, the blank margin QR codes need around the outside for a scanner to lock onto the pattern reliably.
